Adidas is calling it quits on the “shackle sneakers”. After posting images on the Adidas Facebook page of the JS Roundhouse Mid with the caption “Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?” critics expressed outrage saying that the shoes evoked thoughts of slavery.
The shoes are the brainchild of Beverly Hills designer Jeremy Scott, who called the shoes style “quirky and lighthearted”.
Adidas issued a statement saying “We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace.”
