The Wood
“The Wood” is Rick Famuyiwa’s debut as a Director & Writer, It’s a coming of age movie for its era, a lot like his most recent film “DOPE” (you can see a lot of similarities in the two movies)
One of my favorite aspects of this movie is the fact that the three characters’ from the hood aren’t: drug dealers, pimps, womanizing alcoholics, bums or whatever hood stereotype that some movies usually do .However, they are also not annoying goody two shoes. These three guys are real people with real problems. I’m not saying that the previously mentioned stereotypes don’t exist, but so many movies beat over the head with stereotypes and it’s good to see a director who makes great movie without them.
