(HOUSTON) — In the first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans selected Jadeveon Clowney, the 6’ 6” 274-pound defensive end from the University of South Carolina.
A native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Clowney played for the South Pointe High School football team and then announced his commitment to the University of South Carolina on his 18th birthday.

Clowney was a unanimous All-American as a sophomore in 2012, and he set school records in quarterback sacks (13.5) and tackles for a loss (23.5) per season while also earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in the Southeastern Conference. He finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Clowney returned for his junior season and earned first-team All-SEC honors, finishing the season with 35 tackles, 10.5 for a loss of yardage, and three quarterback sacks. And the fans loved him, too. He was voted best college football player in the nation and named AT&T National Player of the Year in January 2013, beating out Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Southern California receiver Marqise Lee and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o.

Clowney announced in January that he was skipping his senior year to enter the NFL Draft.
He clocked a 4.53 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, leading all defensive linemen.
He also just signed an endorsement deal with Puma, ESPN reports.
