A healthy lifestyle is necessary for a successful life, and no one could know that better than a professional athlete. Houston Texans’ offensive tackle Duane Brown and guard Brandon Brooks drove home that message at 97.9 The Box’s Hip Hop 4 Health, where they shared about their own health journey with G-Man and Chile.

Brown said he’s everything–and nothing–without being fit in every area of his life.

“My body is my job, so I’ve got to take care of my body so I can perform,” Brown said. “Health is everything. Not just exercising, but eating right, getting regular check-ups, making sure you’re straight.”

Learn How Guard Brandon Brooks Struggled–and Won–Against Weight Loss!

With obesity at epidemic levels, particularly in the black community, Brown said renewed focus on living a healthy lifestyle is important and works to be a good role model for that lifestyle. Someone who knows about those struggles particularly is Brooks, who showed up at Reliant following the 2012 NFL Draft out of Miami.

Brooks recently went through a dramatic transformation in which he lost 30 lbs., after Coach Gary Kubiak told him to get battle ready for the next season.

“Kubes called me out, said I was too heavy. I started eating right,” Brooks said. “Cut all my fast food out, cut all my snacks out. When I do snack, I’m eating salad. Cut a lot of red meat. Eating more chicken and fish.”

So, take it from the pros and take care of that body!
