According to Pearland police, a woman was walking on the train tracks when she was hit and killed by an oncoming train early Tuesday morning.

The accident reportedly happened around 2:30am on Highway 35 near Walnut.

Officials state that a woman was walking on the tracks and the train operator wasn’t able to stop in time. The victim believed to be in her 30s, had not been identified at the time of this report.

The train conductor and an engineer onboard were not injured in the accident. There were no officers injured as a result of the accident.

Pearland authorities are continuing their investigation of the incident and are reportedly investigating the incident as a suicide.

FM 518, Orange, and Walnut at Highway 35 were all roads that were closed due to a police investigation of the incident for several hours Tuesday morning. All roadways have since reopened.
