Amtrak was given a nearly $64 million grant to continue planning the Texas High-Speed Rail project, which came to a halt because of the pandemic. This look to be getting back on track, so to speak, and the grant was awarded last month as part of $153 million in funding made available by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration.

In addition to faster travel, the high-speed rail system could create 1,000 permanent jobs according to Texas Central, the company in charge of the project.

But how long until it’s actually built?

That’s the question most commonly asked when talk of the high-speed rail comes up. To be fair, a speedy way to travel between Houston and Dallas has been a conversation for many years now, so it makes sense that people want to know.

Officials at Amtrak have a goal of completing the bullet train built within 10 years, although planners are being careful not to set a specific timeline for the project.
