Turner told KHOU he will make a decision on whether or not to run in the coming days. Jackson Lee’s vacant seat is currently being directed by the Office of the Clerk, with Gov. Greg Abbott given the authority to call for a special election to fill the seat.
The Governor has yet to call for a special election and he is under no deadline to do so, but in November the longtime congresswoman’s seat will be up for grabs at that time if no special election is called.
One of Houston’s most prominent political figures, Jackson Lee was born January 2, 1950 in Queens, New York, Lee served the citizens of Houston as part of the city council from 1989 to 1994.
