Winning big were Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya, and the late Chadwick Boseman among many this past Sunday (April 4).
The late actor won a posthumous Golden Globe Award for his role in director George C. Wolfe's Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, tearfully accepted the award on his behalf.
Black History Month is off to a great start. Several award nominations were announced for 2021, and Chadwick Boseman made history. He is the first actor to be nominated for four film nominations for the SAG Awards in one year.
Set in 1927 Chicago, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is centered on the incredible story of one of America's first Black professional Blues singer, Ma Rainey, and the tension and conflict between her and the white ownership of the clubs where she performed. Although Boseman’s character, Levee, is fictitious, the film shows how the actual creation of her hit song, "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” came to fruiting and also revealing that the song was written for a dance by the same name.
Chadwick Boseman‘s wife has filed papers in Los Angeles County Court to be named executor of his estate, as the actor reportedly passed without a valid will in place.
Lupita Nyong'o posted a moving, heartfelt eulogy mourning the death of "my friend" Chadwick Boseman, making social media users who read it a collective emotional wreck.
Posting a video collage on her Instagram page of beautiful scenes from nature and pictures Boseman, Letitia reminisced on their friendship while calling him a "soul so beautiful, when you walked into a room, there was calm. You always moved with grace and ease. Every time I saw you, the world would be a better place.”
After taking some time to somewhat process the devastating news, Michael B. Jordan garnered up the energy to poignantly share a letter to his friend and former co-star via Instagram, breaking all of our hearts all over again. During the lengthy post, Jordan let his fans and followers know how much his time with Boseman meant to him, expressing just how disappointed he is that he didn’t have more time to tell him to his face how much he admires him.

May Chadwick Boseman rest in peace and may his words and influence live on forever.
