Well, the Carolina Panthers do indeed have new ownership. And it is NOT Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The Revolt mogul had partnered with Philadelphia 76ers owner Michael Rubin to form an ownership group ready to purchase the Panthers but they were not selected. Instead, minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and hedge fund manager David Tepper was selected, with a formal vote to take place later this month.
There was plenty of support for Puff to buy the Panthers. Remember, last December when the news originally broke he wanted to be the first black owner in the NFL. He even got Steph Curry on board and had moved forward in March with plans to purchase the team.
But it didn’t happen as the Panthers were purchased for more than $2 BILLION from previous owner Jerry Richardson, who paid a mere $206 million for the rights to start the franchise back in 1993. Talk about cashing out.
