This isn’t your typical story about a Cathoic Priest that sexually assaulted a young boy kind of case. This case is about a priest who was accused of sexually assaulting another priest.
It happened in Michigan when the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka took a visiting priest out drinking when this priest was visiting his parish and spending the night over at the St. Ignatius Church in February.
During trial, the visiting priest told the jurors while that he was sexually assaulted that night the two priests went drinking and then then Rev. Obwaka testified that the sex was consensual and that no assault took place.
One of the witnesses that testified during trial was Gaylord Bishop Steven Raica, who spoke with Rev. Obwaka after the visiting priest claimed a sexual assault took place. Gaylord said in trial that Rev. Obwaka did not give any indication that the sex between the two men was anything other then consensual sex.
The Rev. Obwaka is a Kenya native who has been a priest since 2010 and the pastor at St. Ignacio’s since 2013. He was acquitted on the third day of trial.
