When Chris met his 89-year old neighbor Norma Cook some years back, they never would have predicted that he would become her 24-hour caregiver, but here they are living together.
Norma Cook is sick and is currently suffering from Leukemia and she also recently spent two months in the hospital battling against pneumonia and breathing problems too.
“The nurses and doctors told her it would be a miracle if she lived past the holidays, so the fact that she’s still thriving is just a really good thing,” Chris told TODAY. “She’s doing great. If you course see her right now, she looks so cute on the couch with her feet propped up. She just hangs out on my couch and watches TV.”
Her doctors told Norma that she was only allowed to go home if she could have 24-hour care and that’s when Chris created a GoFundMe page for her.
The page was able to raise over $50,000 to help her find a caretake except, testing out caregivers dwindled their funds down and that’s when Chris invited Norma to move in with him for his constant watch.
“She called me the grandson she never had,” Chris said of Norma. Which works out because he considers her to be a grandmother right back. Chris says that Norma is “friendly but sassy,” and that she has a slight stubborn streak in her too.
In one of their various interviews, Chris told News.Com.Au, “She couldn’t be happier that I asked. I was over there visiting most days anyway.”
Chris has videos on his YouTube channel that dates back to 2015 and they show the two sitting around, talking, eating pizza and toasting to each other.
