Project Runway contestant Layana Aguilar presented her Spring/Summer 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week. Still riding the high from designing the dress for Disney princess Elena, the Brazilian-born designer presented a collection that was inspired by hummingbirds and her South American heritage.
The models presented pieces in a beautiful sea-color palette of teals, blues, and a hummingbird pattern. Throughout the assortment, you found little black dresses and classic silhouettes. The look is feminine, yet bright, and memorable with mesh panels and cute cut-outs.
The real treat was the beauty look. HelloBeautiful spoke with Dana Arcidy, lead artist for the Layana Aguilar show. She taught us how to achieve a bright, smokey eye. You are going to look glam on your next island vacation!
Dana revealed that Morphe foundation was applied “to well-moisturized skin, leaving the skin perfected and dewy with no powder necessary.” Mixing moisturizer with your foundation and not adding powder will give your skin the effect like you just went for a light jog. The beauty look was achieved with Morphe makeup and Morphe brushes.
“Three colors were chosen from the Morphe 35B Palette, with each model receiving either green, cobalt, or purple eyeshadow.”
To intensify the color pigment on the eyelids, Dana instructed her team to apply a layer of foundation to the lids as a base. To achieve the look, Dana revealed, “Eyeshadow was patted on the lid and smudged inward, upward, and outward, creating a dramatic, bright, smokey eye.”
Afterward, Black Morphe Gel Liner was applied to the waterline and the same color eyeshadow used on the lid was smudged below the lashes.
Inevitably, there will be eyeshadow that falls underneath your eye, but Dana gives a great beauty tip for this: use concealer under the eyes to clean up the fallout, as well as mask dark circles or discoloration.
To finish the look, a light layer of blush was applied to the cheeks and foundation was dabbed on the models’ lips, muting them out to draw attention to the eyes.
