Janelle Monáe continues to wear the crown as queen of interplanetary #BlackGirlMagic, with her new venture aimed at uplifting, encouraging, and supporting women of color in the entertainment business.
The Wondaland records founder invited a host of celebrities, influencers, and media to Brooklyn’s Botanical Gardens for the inaugural #FemTheFuture brunch this past Saturday.
The crowd mingled in the space, sipping on “Electric Lady” cocktails while discussing future partnerships, before Janelle took the mic to deliver a moving speech on the future of feminism. The brunch is part of Toyota’s Women’s Empowerment initiative, which supports organizations and individuals geared toward female empowerment.
Joined by her record-label prodigies Jidenna, St. Nowhere, Deep Cotton, and Roman, the ATLien stood at the head of a deliciously decorated brunch table and asked her high-profile audience to fight for women.
A list of attendees included Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Apple music executive Bozeman Saint John, creator of Black Girls Rock! Beverly Bond, and more.
The entire affair ended with a stirring performance from St. Nowhere, Janelle’s talented duo girl group:
