In Pittsburgh, bride-to-be Jeni Stepien just wanted her dad near on her wedding day.
Thank goodness that her family and the man that received his heart had kept in touch over the years since her dad was murdered in 2006.
Arthur Thomas or as Jeni and her sister call him, Tom said, “Jeni wrote me a letter and she said, ‘Dear Tom, I’m the daughter of the man who’s heart is inside of you and I’m gonna get married on August 6th. And one further thing if you’re willing, would you walk me down the aisle?'”
After Tom asked his own daughter and got her “ok,” Tom and his wife packed up and headed to Jeni’s wedding to walk her down the aisle. The family met with Tom before Jeni’s wedding to meet him in person for the first time and it was a heartfelt meeting for Jeni and her sister too.
“Just hugging him made me feel like I was close to my dad again which on this day was perfect. It was what I needed,” said Michelle Stepien, Jeni’s sister.
Jeni said, It’s just like having my dad here and better because we get to share this story with people and other people see that organ donors do matter.”
There is a website that explains to us the different types of organ donors that are needed; it’s called DonateLife.net/types-of-donations. This site explains to us all exactly what a person might need and we can’t forget that cancer patients need bone marrow transplant too. The legendary Craig Sager’s case is a cancer patient who needs a third bone marrow transplant in his battle with leukemia.
