I was dreading being alone over the weekend for the 4th of July. My brain was warped with frustrations about being single (on what I consider to be one of the most romantic holidays that exist). Surprisingly, this turned out to be the best Independence Day that I’ve ever experienced. My teenage cousin wanted to spend time with me, so I took him to watch fireworks at Eleanor Tinsley Park for the “Freedom Over Texas” event. The view was amazing; we were on a hill with the city lights and skyscrapers in the background (amongst a cool, summer breeze). Afterwards, we rented bikes and rode from City Hall to Discovery Green and back. My lil cuz told me that this was a dope memory that he will never forget. Those words helped remind me that we should be grateful for the people who are already in our lives that love us. It’s not always about romantic relationships. Spend time with your friends/family members who think the world of you. -Diamond
