Prince

Happy Birthday, Prince!

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has officially declared June 7 “Prince Day” in the Purple One’s home state, US Weekly reports. The holiday was put in place to honor Prince not only as an artist, but also as a philanthropist.

US Weekly wrote:

“As fans will recall, Prince was passionate about his suburban roots and made a concerted effort to stay out of the Hollywood fray by choosing to settle down in Chanhassen, Minnesota, at his Paisley Park compound.

‘He said Minneapolis raised him … [moving] will never happen,’ the musician’s good friend and longtime bassist Nik West told Fox News back in April. ‘He would say, ‘I’m never leaving … there’s a legacy here for me.’ He was just all about just being who he was — being at home.’”

Prince is also being honored in other cities. On Saturday (June 4), the icon was paid tribute by Sway and Spike Lee with a “Purple People Party” in Brooklyn, New York. In Cleveland, Ohio, his birthday will be celebrated at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In celebration, it’s time to party like it’s 1999.
