If you watched this year’s “Black Girls Rock” ceremony, then you got a taste of Brandy‘s new single, “Beggin & Pleadin”.

The 37-year-old told Pitchfork that conveying the emotions of the track has been one of her greatest challenges as an artist.

“I pulled it from the bottom of my core, and that was an experience for me. It was very emotional but I managed to just push through.”

While it seems as if the Grammy award winning singer may have been using the song to rekindle things with her former fiancé Ryan Press, you definitely don’t see a heartbroken woman in the visuals for the track.

Brandy shared on Instagram that the speakeasy, roaring 20s themed video was inspired by Shug Avery from ‘The Color Purple’.
