The NFL Commissioner made the announcement today on Twitter:

This fall Thursday Night Football will be streamed live @twitter so fans will see more of this.

The new deal deal that Twitter made with the NFL means that not only did they beat out Amazon, Facebook, Verizon Communications and Yahoo, but that the won the rights to stream NFL’s Thursday night football games online this coming season too.
The deal is going to allow Twitter to stream 10 games for FREE to Twitter user and the games will also being broadcast live on CBS or NBC like usual too.

The financial terms are undisclosed, but they said that Twitter paid less then what what the broadcaster price would be (for those 10 games).
Twitter has hopes that this new deal is going to help with the user growth since it Instagram and Facebook have tromped them over the years.
“There is a massive amount of NFL- related conversation happening on Twitter during our games and tapping into that audience, in addition to our viewers on broadcast and cable, will ensure Thursday Night Football is seen on an unprecedented number of platforms this season,” said Roger Goddell said in a statement on Tuesday.
