Since her death in 2011, Amy Winehouse is remembered and memorialized by fans around the world. But there’s probably no one who knew her better than her mother.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Janis Winehouse-Collins reflects on her daughter’s whirlwind life and also suggests that the star singer may have suffered from Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes physical and vocal tics.
Janis shared: “She could well have been almost Tourette’s, where she would just shout things out,” says Janis, 60. “We just do not know.”
Janis has written a new memoir titled Loving Amy: A Mother’s Story. It tells the tale of living with Amy before she fell victim to drugs and alcohol addiction.
Amy died from alcohol poisoning in 2011. She was 27-years old.
