In a time of constant reboots and rehashes of movies that should’ve remained dead, it was easy for one to be skeptical of a franchise like “Star Wars” being brought back to the big screen. Star Wars fans are some of the most passionate people on the planet (myself included) But I wasn’t very apprehensive when I heard about an episode 7 being made though. To me it was just pure bliss knowing that I would get to experience what my parents and their peers got to experience when the originals came out. A part of me was nervous though, what if the movie was like the prequel series and filled with nothing but missed opportunities, let’s face it Darth Maul should have been a waaaay bigger character, and don’t get me started on the disaster that is known as Jar-Jar Binks!
But JJ Abrams has a wonderful track record in my mind, he brought back the Star Trek series and made me into a Trekie, so it’s safe to say I had a lot of faith in JJ this go round.
December 17 will forever be a day I remember…I arrived the theater and saw so many people dressed in their coolest Star Wars outfits, I got to see some Jedi’s, Siths, Storm Troopers, took some pics with a couple Chewbaccas, I even saw a couple Ewoks here and there…I felt as if I was in nerd heaven. I grabbed me a beer and went to my reserved seat with my wife, sister and best friend (who are all in love with Star Wars just as much as I am…well maybe not AS much but they love it). Our host came out and had some Star Wars trivia for prizes which earned me a small fountain drink coupon. Afterward the previews came on and then it was time!!!
I reclined my seat back and then came out the famous score that can be recognized by people in every country all over the word and BOOM there it was in it’s glorious beautiful yellow font that we’ve all come to know and love.
It read
“STAR WARS
EPISODE VII
THE FORCE AWAKENS”
I almost busted out in tears right there and then, but I contained my emotion (not for long cause as soon as The Millennium Falcon hit the screen I was in tears)
The next 2+ hours were pure bliss! The movie was nothing short of spectacular!
Words can’t describe what it made me feel, I felt every single emotion at what point or another. I was in awe at the beauty of the scenery. The attention to detail was immaculate and the characters were believable and wonderfully portrayed!
The use of more practical props and less CGI made a huge difference.(one of my biggest gripes of the prequel series) It felt a lot more grounded and realistic all while carrying it’s mysticism that we’ve come to expect from it.
Seeing The New and Old characters collide was a thing of beauty (even Admiral Ackbar makes his highly speculated appearance)
The story was great and it felt as if it was just an appetizer of what’s to come (much like episode 4 was for the original trilogy)
I could go on for days on what I loved but I don’t want to spoil the movie and I did promise a spoil free review
I do recommend it for everyone and probably consider it the movie of the year, I’m actually planning on watching it again sometime soon.
Don’t let your past apprehension stop you from watching this movie! Experience it in theaters as soon as possible! You won’t regret it!
