A week after Malia Obama made headlines for standing in proximity to a game of beer pong while visiting Brown University, the campus newspaper has issued an apology.
“It is a shame that Malia was unable to visit Brown and enjoy herself at a party without several news headlines coming out about it the next day. While it is understandable that so many students were excited about her visit, it is likely that few of us would enjoy having strangers take pictures of us while we were unaware and post them on the Internet” read the editorial on the website of The Brown Daily Herald.
“Many Brown students were surprised and embarrassed to see themselves cited in the articles, as other Brown students posted them on Facebook with disappointed captions that criticized their peers for not simply leaving the 17-year-old alone on her college visit” the letter continued.
The half-hearted editorial, which was written by several of the newspapers editors and contributors is far from an apology to Malia; it’s merely saying ‘we wish our tweets and snapchat videos didn’t go viral because now we’re being scrutinized for trying to be cool.’
Instead, the schools president, or at the bare minimum, the dean of admissions should have released a formal apology to President Obama as well as his daughter for the way in which the students tried to humiliate Malia.
If Brown University were a viable option for Malia, we doubt that it’s now among her top picks. Wouldn’t it be nice if she chose to attend an HBCU (Historically Black College and University)? She should definitely check out Howard University which is a few miles away from The White House!

We’re not sure how Barack Obama finds time to be the leader of the free world and still be a great dad, but it’s clear his time management skills must be working. His 2 beautiful daughters Malia and Sasha are growing up into smart, talented young women right in front of our eyes. And while Mom (and First Lady) Michelle no doubt plays a HUGE role (aka the boss), we just had to share our fave dad & daughter moments.
