TV One Summer 2013 TCA Panel

TV One is rising up the rating ranks amongst African-American viewers. According to the television network, they’ve taken the number one cable network position in primetime among Black viewers in all key demos. Their Wednesday line-up of shows, which includes Unsung, Hollywood Divas, and Born Again Virgin, has allowed TV One to become one of the top three ad-supported cable networks for Black women between the ages of 25-54 between July and September. TV One’s Wednesday line-up returns tonight with a new episode of Unsung featuring hip-hop artist YoYo, the Hollywood Divas: Reunion Part 2, and two episodes of Born Again Virgin.


Facebook to Create ‘Dislike’ Button

Have you ever scrolled through your Facebook feed, only to see a status or photo that you didn’t like? Well, now you can let it be known. After several years of avoiding the “Dislike” button, Facebook has decided to give in. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed the “Dislike” button project is in the works. “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” said Zuckerberg. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it. What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment.” Read more.


NAN to Honor Women Leading the Way Against Injustice and Inequality

Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network on Wednesday will shine a spotlight on women who have been on the frontlines when it comes to combating injustice and inequality. The women, who’ve made their marks in politics, human rights, and social justice, will be honored at tonight’s NAN annual Action & Authority Reception at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event will be hosted by Rev. Sharpton and Executive Director Janaye Ingram.


Interactive One Founder Cathy Hughes Will Have Street Named After Her

Interactive One Founder Cathy Hughes is recognized as a pioneer in the media industry. Throughout her career, she’s been awarded several accolades for her work, including from major organizations like the Congressional Black Caucus and ADCOLOR. This weekend, Hughes’ career will come full circle. The H Street Community in Washington D.C. has decided to rename 4th and H Street NE, the corner of the building where Radio One was born, after Hughes. “Our Founder and Chairperson, Cathy Hughes, has been the recipient of numerous business and industry honors throughout her career. She continues to shine bright as a beacon of light and an example of what a dream and perseverance can produce,” said Interactive One in a statement.
