We all have our favorite television shows, but most of them are on summer break right now.
However, not all is lost. In fact, summer is the perfect chance for us to fall in love with new shows. It’s the time of year where networks give a chance to new programs that might be able to make it to the big time.
So to make sure you won’t be watching lame reruns for the rest of the season, I’m going to suggest some new TV shows you should give a solid chance. Some of these are already on, and others will be airing soon.
Take a look.
Uncommon Sense w/ Charlamagne Tha God
This might be the best show tackling race that’s on TV right now. Uncommon Sense is a fun and informative program during which different personalities discuss the week’s most talked about subjects. Catch it Fridays at 11 p.m. on MTV.
A new show on Netflix that pegs itself as a global thriller from the creative minds of The Wachowskis, the geniuses behind The Matrix. The show focuses on eight people from around the world whose lives are suddenly and inexplicably connected in a fight for their own survival. It’s a very intriguing concept and interesting show you can binge watch right now.
A reboot of the movie franchise with an updated twist fit for the small screen. The show starts with a viral YouTube video that eventually leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood, and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past. MTV put the first episode online and it’s almost up to a million views. You can watch it every Tuesday at 10 p.m. on MTV.
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp
This is going to be Netflix’s next weapon, set to debut on July 31st at 12:01 PT. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp is the prequel series to the 2001 film that became a cult phenomenon. While the film took place on the last day of Camp Firewood, the series goes back to its first day in 1981. There are a bunch of big stars in the 8-episode series, including originals Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, and more.
The Carmichael Show
Starring Jerrod Carmichael fresh off his hilarious Spike Lee-directed HBO special Love At The Store, the comedian now has his own sitcom starring In Living Color’s David Alan Grier and 22 Jump Street star Amber Stevens-West. The trailer looks funny as hell, but it’s going to need a lot of support if it plans on surviving the summer. I’m all in on this one. The Carmichael Show premieres Wednesday, August 5 at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.
Also heading to NBC this summer is the new show from The Office alum Craig Robinson. In Mr. Robinson, Craig is a teacher and a musician who has his way with the ladies. Kylie Jenner roaster Amandla Stenberg plays one of the students, and Meagan Good is also on cast. Mr. Robinson is produced by the guys who brought you The Office and Parks & Recreation, and premieres Wednesday, August 5 at 9/8c on NBC.
Fear The Walking Dead
Be ready to close out the summer with a bite on August 23rd on AMC. FTWD takes place right at the start of the outbreak that plagues the current hit The Walking Dead in Atlanta. It’s a star-studded cast of great actors and judging from the trailer released at Comic-Con, all we can say is wow. Just wow.
Another movie-turned-TV-show. This time, Meagan Good stars in the reboot, slated to premiere on Sept 21. “Like the movie, FOX’s show is about using people known as “precogs,” who can more or less see the future, to help stop crimes before they’re committed,” The Verge reports.
Starring Morris Chestnut as the charismatic Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Junior, the most brilliant private pathologist in Miami, this doctor uses his wildly sophisticated autopsy lab to perform for-hire autopsies and uncover clues that the Miami PD can’t see. It premieres this fall on FOX.
