(RICHMOND, TX) — Richmond between Katy and Sugar Land is one of the fastest-growing areas in Metro Houston. With thousand of homes being built and a completed Grand Parkway, retailers like Gallery Furniture are opening stores on what was previously farmland.
“Coming soon” is a sign that you see a lot in the area. We spotted “coming soon” signs for Sam’s Club and Chick-Fil-A, and now there’s a Gallery Furniture sign as well.

The Gallery Furniture store will open around Thanksgiving this year.
Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale says it’ll be 40 percent bigger than the original store on Interstate 45 and will include a restaurant that will buy locally-grown food.
“Katy being a boom area and Sugar Land as well, so we got right in the middle,” McIngvale said.
County Commissioner James Patterson tells us there are other big box stores coming soon. They just have not put out their signs yet.
In addition, a 1-cent sales tax will help pay for fire protection and other needed upgrades to the area.
“We have a county-wide ambulance service; we have a county-wide library service,” Patterson said. “Homes does not carry that, you’ve got to have the commercial.”
With the new Grand Parkway in Richmond growing by 44,000 cars per week, some of those upgrades have already been done to allow traffic to run smoothly.
