(GALVESTON, TX) — The City of Galveston is attempting to set a new world record for the most aluminum cans collected in an eight-hour period.

City officials said they hope to accomplish the feat on May 31 during the AIA Sandcastle competition.

The Latest News Headlines, Traffic and Weather:

Cans will be collected from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Stewart Beach, and dropping off cans is easy. Simply pull under the entrance sign for Stewart, and volunteers will assist you in unloading your cans.

Guinness requires that all cans be collected by hand and by individuals.

Residents should start collecting cans as soon as possible. The cans must be stored by the individuals and turned in during the collection period.
