(Amherstburg, ON)  —  It turns out the winner of last weekend’s marathon in Amherstburg, Ontario didn’t even mean to run the race.  According to the CBC, Meredith Fitzmaurice was at the event to run the half-marathon.  She said she wanted to do it as a test run, and then try to qualify for the Boston Marathon at another race next month.  But this past Sunday, Fitzmaurice took a wrong turn during the half-marathon.  She wound up running the full marathon and came in first.  The accidental victory also put her ahead of schedule by giving her a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.
