(Annapolis, MD) — A short Maryland man is getting a short sentence because of his height. Judge Paul Hackner sentenced five-foot-one Marcus Freeman to 18-months in the county jail on Monday. The 25-year-old Freeman had been charged with assault. Judge Hackner said he was taking mercy on Freeman because if he was required to serve a longer sentence in a prison facility, he would end up as, quote, “lunchmeat.”
