(Springfield, MA) — Singer Stevie B is looking to make up for his past after it caught up with him mid-concert over the weekend. According to MassLive.com, the artist — whose real name is Steven Bernard Hill — was handcuffed and hauled off stage in the middle of his performance at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, Friday night. Hill pled guilty on Monday to owing 420-thousand dollars in unpaid child support. The freestyle singer’s lawyers called the incident an “unfortunate misunderstanding,” adding that Stevie is a “wonderful and loving father and caring husband.”
Hill has reportedly agreed to pay about 921 dollars a week in child support plus another 500 dollars a month toward his arrears. He’s also being held behind bars until he comes up with 100-thousand dollars to put toward the total balance. Hill is due back in court November 18th. As Stevie B., Hill turned out a number of hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s including his top 40 hit “In My Eyes” and his number one single “Because I Love You (The Postman Song).”
