HOUSTON – Prairie View head coach Henry Frazier told 11 Sports Anchor Butch Alsandor Monday that he is leaving the program to explore options on the east coast and to be closer to family.

Frazier is credited with reviving a Panther football program that saw record losing streak in the 1990’s and early 2000’s.

Frazier also confirmed to 11 Sports that defensive coordinator Heishma Northern will take over as the new head coach.

In 2004, Frazier took over a Prairie View program that had won just 21 of 216 games since 1980 and lost a record 80 games in a row from 1989 to 1998.

He took the Panthers to their first winning season in 2007 and their first Southwestern Athletic Conference title in 45 years in 2009, earning the SWAC Coach of the Year award.

Prairie View was 7-4 overall and 6-3 in SWAC play in 2010.
