Rapper Guru, of Gang Starr fame, suffered a heart attack yesterday and there are new reports that he is in a coma.

Guru’s partner DJ Premier confirmed the news in a phonecall to the radio show Hip Hop Nation yesterday and said: “Guru is in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow afternoon.”

Guru – whose real name is Keith Alam – became famous back in the 80s as a member of Gang Starr, which had some big hits like Words I Manifest, Just to Get Rep and Full Clip.

He has also worked with many musicians from a variety of music genres since the 1990’s.

Guru is only only 43 years old and is currently being treated at a New York Hospital. The Rapper will be undergoing surgery tomorrow and the music fraternity has extended their support to one of the forerunners of the Hip hop music world.

This is indeed a tough time for his family and friends and we wish that Guru gets well soon.
