HOUSTON — Midtown has become a hot spot for young professionals and families living to enjoy restaurants, shops, high-dollar apartments and condos and bars, but it’s also become a hot spot for crime, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

WATCH IT: Residents Fed Up With Crime
Recent Houston Police Department reports show that 94 crimes have been reported in the area in the past 30 days.
The crime statistics report shows 61 thefts, 13 burglaries, eight robberies, five aggravated assaults, five auto thefts, one rape and one murder.
“It’s happened to me. My car was stolen in the neighborhood, and one of my neighbors across the street where I live in Midtown had her car window broken into four times,” resident Greg Matthews said.
Like many other growing communities, Midtown has become a place for the crime of opportunity.
“My car got broken into two times. I was at Starbucks and someone broke my window. You feel violated. It’s very frustrating,” Midtown visitor Jasmine Dugas said.
Business owners and managers in the area said the crime also affects their bottom line.
“Crime can really slow a business down. Not only are car break-ins bad, but some people can get mugged. It happens and they need to report it so we can have increased patrols,” Front Porch Pub Manager Tony Flores said. The Midtown district leaders have a neighborhood watch program in effect to try to help bring down crime in the area.
