Roscoe Dash is preparing to hopefully take the stage this weekend at BET’s fourth annual Hip-Hop awards.
The 20-year-old Atlanta rapper is up for this year’s “Rookie Of The Year” award and is facing some fierce competition in the forms of Waka Flocka Flame, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and Chiddy Bang.
Dash sat down for an interview with HipHopWired and says while he’d love to be able to give his “long list” of thank-yous this year, he’s happy just being nominated.
“I’ve been watching the awards since I was little and to have the opportunity to go onstage and give my long list of thank-yous if I was to get selected for the “Rookie Of The Year” award, that’s just something big to me…I got a lot of competition I can’t say whether I’m gonna win or not. I’m just happy to be nominated.”
In addition to his Hip-Hop award nomination, the “All Tha Way Turnt Up” hitmaker is preparing to release his album Ready Set Go on November 2 with features from Chris Brown, Jim Jones and Julez Santana.
“I’m always working with new people…I have songs with Chris Brown, Jim Jones, Julez Santana, Juicy J from 3 6 Mafia, Jazzy Pha, the list goes on….I got a song with J. Holiday. I’m just working, I’m just trying to do new things.”
With his club hit “Sexy Girl Anthem” taking over the airwaves, Dash is currently promoting his “Sexy Girl” contest.
Ladies who visit RoscoeDashOnline.com can enter for a chance to win a date with the rapper, a contest he says he came up spur of the moment.
“I always like to do things a little different, I’m real spontaneous; me and my team. 9 times out of 10, anything they suggest to me, I’m probably gonna run with it. I realize that I have a bigger female audience than anything else so I said, why not do something to give back and contribute to them. So I said, let’s start a win a date with Roscoe Dash contest.”
He also adds that he makes an effort to make sure his music isn’t degrading, which he says is the reason behind his majority female fan base.
“I like to look at the music whether it’s for the female audience or whoever I make it for, I like to look at it as something different than the way other rappers refer to women; calling them out their name. I just wanna make enjoyable music but you don’t have to say the same things that everyone else says. I’d rather motivate them than degrade.”
