In the Trump era, desperate times call for desperate measures.

The man in the White House made his way into office with vile language and insidious lies. So, unfortunately, no average candidate can weather the Trump years with mere principles alone. While Michelle Obama‘s “they go low, we go high” phrase sounds cute, sometimes you have to master the art of the clapback.

There are many levels to this.

Some opt for the delicate or classy clapback, while others might go for a full-on dragging. Luckily, there’s a few midterm election candidates who find themselves somewhere in the middle of the clapback spectrum.

While Twitter fingers are no reason to vote for anyone, electing a candidate who can snatch wigs in 280 characters or less might help you sleep better at night, along with their bomb platform. Andrew Gillum

Florida’s Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum has zero time for 45.

Gillum has been running on issues such as expanding health care for Floridians and strengthening the public school system, but of course, Trump bypassed all of this to call him a “thief” in a condescending tweet.

Trump is referring to an FBI investigation of the Tallahassee government — an investigation that could implicate Gillum who is the mayor of Tallahassee. However, Gillum has said before that he’s not the target of the investigation and he’s cooperated with the FBI so far, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

So Andrew cordially invited Trump to say whatever he had to say to his face…

Oh, and he also called Trump a pig…

The democratic socialist campaigning for congresswomen for New York’s 14th district has clapbacks for days.

Back in July, she made great use of the delicate clapback when she used Fox News’ far-right platform to push her far-left agenda…

Abrams could possibly be the first Black woman governor of Georgia, running on issues such as affordable housing and criminal justice reform.

However, some people (*ahem* her Republican opponent Brian Kemp) seem to keep pointing out Abrams’ financial issues — like the fact that she’s thousands of dollars in debt and owes taxes.

However, Abrams decided to make use of the classy clapback by detailing her financial issues with Fortune and letting the world know that she’s one of millions of Americans in debt.

No mud slinging, no nasty rhetoric. Classy clapback for the win!

Amara Enyia

Enyia has gained the support of people like Chance the Rapper and Kanye West for her Chicago mayoral run.

With a platform that includes investing in community solutions rather than more police for Chicago, she’s already finding herself going against the doubters.
