Last night, the former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick attended 2017 ACLU Southern California’s annual Bill of Rights Dinner in Beverly Hills and was honored with the Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award.
When Kaepernick was introduced, he received a standing ovation by the guests in attendance. His award was a surprise during last night’s event since his name was not included along with the other Hollywood A-listers like Jane Fonda, Viola Davis and Judd Apatow.

“We all have an obligation no matter the risk, and regardless of reward, to stand up for our fellow men and women who are being oppressed with the understanding that human rights cannot be compromised,” Kaep said during his acceptance speech.
He also quoted Frederick Douglas saying, “If there is no work, there is no progress.”
Later Kaep tweeted, “Beyond humbled to receive the Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award from the ACLU. We all have an obligation no matter the risk, & regardless of reward, to stand up for our fellow men & women who are being oppressed with the understanding that human rights cannot be compromised.”
Kaepernick is currently one of four vying to be named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2017 and is being presented with on  Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award Tuesdayand that’s after he was already awarded GQ’s Person of the Year.
Since opting out of his contract and becoming a free agent, Kaepernick has been blacked balled by the NFL owners, but that hasn’t stopped him donating $800,00 to a variety of different organizations. He has a pledge of $1 million to black causes…
You can check out the list of organizations he has already donated too here.
