A Dawson High School student, Mikeal (Mike) Floyd, has been elected as the newest member of Pearland ISD’s Board of Trustees.

Saturday he was an underdog the entire way but soon it turned into a surprise win for the 18-year old high school student.

The win comes at a loss for two-term incumbent, Rusty DeBorde, 54 percent to 45 percent.  Floyd added, “It was a life-changing moment for me.”

Floyd believes he could better represent students’ and teachers’ interests because he had seen firsthand how district-level decisions affect local classrooms.

The high school Senior has also been accepted at the University of Houston’s Honors College.
