UPDATE: U.S. Capitol suspect has been shot and is in custody.
The U.S. Capitol is on lockdown following reports of shots fired at the Visitor Center. The White House was also placed under lockdown after the incident occurred.
Congressional staffers were notified and instructed to lock doors and move to sheltered areas.
The D.C. Police Department tweeted that “There has been an isolated incident at the U.S. Capitol. There is no active threat to the public.”
