Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama Hit Campaign Trail Together For The First Time
While First Lady Michelle Obama has been gloriously stumping for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over the past month, Thursday was the first time the two shared the same stage.
At a rally at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as Clinton watched behind her, FLOTUS said that the former Secretary of State is the best choice for this nation.
“The stakes in this election could not be more clear,” she said. “This is not about Republicans versus Democrats. None of that matters this time,” the first lady told supporters.
“No, no, no, this election is about something much bigger. It’s about who will shape our children and the country we lead.”
She also stressed to the crowd that Donald Trump –without even mentioning his name– is unfit to serve as this nation’s leader given his hateful rhetoric and questionable temperament, USA Today noted.
“We want a president who takes this job seriously and who has the temper and maturity to do it well,” Obama said, “someone who’s steady, someone we can trust with the nuclear codes.”
She also stressed that in Clinton, “We have never had a more qualified and prepared candidate for president. And yes, she happens to be a woman.”
The rally was aimed to encourage voters in the battleground state to get to the polls early or on Election Day.
Boy Bye! Donald Trump Unveils His ‘New Deal for Black America’ to a Largely White Crowd
Once again GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to talk about his plans for “helping” African-Americans in front of mostly white crowds.
According to NBC News, the businessman turned politician veiled his “new deal for Black America” on Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C., to an audience that lacked the people he claims he’s trying to reach. Trump’s plan included the following: Making our communities safer, providing great education and creating higher-paying jobs.
Now it all sounds good, but it also reeks of tone deafness as he calls for adding even more police into our already over-policed communities. He also tried to pit Blacks against immigrants by falsely saying that they “violate the civil rights of African Americans” and that “no group has been more economically harmed by decades of illegal immigration than low-income African-American workers.”
In addition: Trump mentioned tax holidays and tax incentives as a way to encourage businesses to return to “blighted” inner cities. (Yes he really did call the inner cities that)
And he also wants to “seek a federal disaster designation … in order to initiate the rebuilding of vital infrastructure, the demolition of abandoned properties and the increased presence of law enforcement,” NBC News reports.
Not sure if his messages are getting through given that numerous polls show him bringing in 6-8 percent of the Black vote nationally.
Sigh: Groundbreaking High School Kicker Mocked With Instagram Post Of Gorilla Suit
Teen Ashton Brooks is the embodiment of #BlackGirlMagic: She’s the star kicker for the Midland Dow High School football team, she sings, plays soccer and secured a partial academic scholarship to Northwood University. But none of that has shielded the senior from racist taunts from white schoolmates.
Recently, Shaun King, activist and reporter for the New York Daily News, tweeted an image from an Instagram post that showed a fan standing next to someone wearing a gorilla suit with a photo caption identifying the gorilla as Brooks, Blavity noted.
Well, the school got wind of what happened and the Superintendent of Midland Public Schools later sent a statement to USA TODAY Sports addressing the issue:
“The Board, Superintendent and High School Administrators have thoroughly investigated this incident. The girl who posted the photo and caption is a former MPS student. She last attended MPS in the 2014-15 school year and now college age. We are equally offended and upset that our Schools and Community have been connected to her comments in this matter. The comments made do not reflect the beliefs of our District or Schools in any way.”
“During the investigation it was evident that the student in the costume was surprised to learn that this post had been made. He was shocked that some people thought that he was complicit in staging the photo. We believe that based on what we have learned, he was unaware of the post being made and specifically did not know about the girl’s comments until we addressed it with him …”
“Midland Public Schools will continue to track this information. We will condemn this type of racism and misuse of social media within our Schools, District and Community.”
Ashton: Ignore the haters and keep on shining.
