Education and community activists have partnered to hold town hall meetings in four cities: Atlanta, Richmond, Baltimore, and Columbia. Their aim is to start a larger discussion about creating and implementing strategies to improve education success in Black communities.

University of Phoenix Chief Financial Officer Byron Jones announced the partnership that will focus on repairing the connection between parents, teachers, and the community, which once formed an alliance that successfully educated generations of African-American children.

The partnership includes the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, the National Network of State Teachers of the Year, and the University of Phoenix.

Atlanta will be the first stop on the tour. Community activists, parents, educators, and elected officials will gather for the town hall meeting on June 13 at West Hunter Street Baptist Church.

The Mount Olivet Church in Richmond will host the next town hall event on June 14, followed by New Shiloh Baptist Church in Baltimore on June 15, and Greater St. Luke Baptist Church in Columbia on June 16.
