According to the internet it was the purest form of struggle!
hen Billboard first announced that Madonna was going pay tribute to late iconic pop star Prince, they were immediately met with criticism and skepticism. When it comes to Prince excellence is the standard and his tributes should match that. So since the announcement Madonna was put on notice and her tribute had to be nothing less than stellar. Which brings us to last night, the arena turned purple as the crowd stood and Madonna decked out in purple glitter suit sitting in a purple throne revealed herself. She opened up with a rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U” the massive hit Prince penned for Sinead O’Connor before being joined by Stevie Wonder for Prince’s timeless classic “Purple Rain”. After a while with arms adorned with glowing purple bracelets the crowd joined in for a massive sing along of the song. Checkout a clip of the tribute below:
The internet immediately wasn’t here for it at all and took to their Twitter accounts to let Billboard know, thanks BUT NO THANKS. Peep some of the electronic vitriol below:
Wow just wow but it was well deserved. BUT if they gave out Billboard Awards for shade BET would have definitely won an award last night. Peep their response to Billboard’s tribute that even Prince would enjoy below:
“Yeah, we saw that. Don’t worry. We Got You”
Well played BET, well played, but you better deliver cause the slander will be 10 times worse cause WE EXPECT GREATNESS FROM YOU. You got some time to get this right y’all.
