As America ramps up for its most controversial and frustrating (Donald f*king Trump) election season of our time, it is single women who hold the most power.

A recent New York Mag article explains that for the first time in history, single women outnumber the amount of married women in the U.S. To top it off, the likelihood of being married has also declined. Only 20 percent of Americans ages 18-29 are wed (so we can stop all this non-sense making it seem like ONLY BLACK women are unmarried).

With this new found independence, single women have become the most powerful voting demographic.

According to Page Gardner, founder of the Voter Participation Center, in the 2012 presidential election, unmarried women drove turnout in practically every demographic, making up “almost 40 percent of the African-American population, close to 30 percent of the Latino population, and about a third of all young voters,” the article sites.

On the liberal front, single women outvoted married women in a bid for Barack Obama by a wide margin of 67 to 31 percent. Umarried white women also favored Obama over Romney by a margin of 49.4 percent.

“It turned out,” Last wrote in The Weekly Standard, “that the marriage rate for these women was a greater influence on vote choice than any other variable.”

So what does all this statistical jargon mean? We need to vote. Single women are likely to vote for either Sanders or Clinton over any of the Republican hopefuls this election season.

Which means, we can overcome the Trump tide of sh*t if we all recognize our power.
