The 25-year-old daughter of police brutality victim, Eric Garner, is seeking justice for her father’s untimely death.

Erica Garner believes former Staten Island district attorney, Rep. Dan Donovan scapegoated the actions of her father to convene a grand jury that cleared Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s death.

In July 2014, Garner was arrested for allegedly illegally selling cigarettes. He is then seen on video being placed in a chokehold by Panaleo. The 43-year-old father uttered, “I can’t breathe” but continued to be restrained and later died in a hospital.

Donovan used the case as a catalyst for his political career and he was elected into congress shortly thereafter.

“He’s been promoted,” said Erica. “He had a platform off my dad’s dead body to run for Congress, and that’s why he did it. It was a political move.”

Garner told the NY Post that she’s strongly “considering” challenging Donovan in the next election.

“It would be a long shot,” said Staten Island GOP Chairman John Antoniello. “Dan Donovan is very popular. It’s an interesting scenario, but I don’t think Dan would have a problem.”

While many think it may be a long shot for Garner to beat the incumbent, Staten Island Assemblyman, Matthew Titone offered some words of wisdom for her prospective political career.

“Her first step would really be to meet with leadership and make the case of what does she bring not only to the position, but to Staten Island and Brooklyn.”
