History is repeating itself with the Miss America pageant.

Singer, actress, and the first African-American Miss America, Vanessa Williams returned to the pageant that put her on the map. Williams resigned her crown in 1984 after nude photos she had taken in college surfaced during her reign.  Williams has since had a successful pop, Broadway and acting career.  Williams returned to the pageant last night as the head judge.

During the ceremony, Miss America CEO Sam Haskell offered his apology to Williams and her mother. Watch the video below:

Meanwhile, Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell won the pageant.  She earned the crown over first runner up Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts and second runner up Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson.  The night’s pageant included hard-hitting questions covering everything from Donald Trump to Planned Parenthood to “Deflategate.”
