Although the movie depicts the lives of the rap group N.W.A and their start in Compton, there is no movie theater in the film’s home city.
Due to Compton’s existence as a ‘low income area’ the city doesn’t have enough investments to afford a movie theater. Community members say Compton is devalued and the people of the community feel devalued also.
Though hometown rappers such as Dr. Dre have donated, (his ‘Compton’ album royalties to build a fine arts center in the city), Compton still lacks its own movie theater.
