The Straight Outta Compton movie is already brewing up quite a storm of positive reviews, and it hasn’t even officially hit theaters yet.

Ice Cube and Dr. Dre have been on a promotional run for the N.W.A. biopic film, which comes out this Friday, and the two have landed this month’s issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

The full issue hits newsstands this Friday, but the outlet is already giving us a preview of the interview to come, where the two break down a lot of important topics.

One of the most intriguing subjects came when Dre revealed some more information on the now-scrapped Detox project that fans anticipated for the last decade.

He told the mag:

“I had between 20 and 40 songs for Detox, and I just couldn’t feel it. Usually I can hear the sequence of an album as I’m going, but I wasn’t able to do that. I wasn’t feeling it in my gut. So I really thought I was done being an artist.”

He even addresses the incidents where he assaulted TV host Dee Barnes in 1991, as well as his old girlfriend Michel’le:

“I made some fucking horrible mistakes in my life,” says Dre. “I was young, fucking stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

Dre also discusses why he doesn’t go into the spotlight much at all, and Cube talks about the lyrics of N.W.A. being offensive to women.

Head over to Rolling Stone to read more, and grab an issue when it hits newsstands this Friday.
