By now, it’s pretty well-known that Bill Cosby would reportedly cut a check to his assault victims in order to silence them, but the motivation to do so may now be a bit more clear.
According to his newly released 2005 deposition, Cosby’s behavior while trying to de-escalate an incident involving Temple University employee Andrea Constand followed suit. Cosby was willing to risk it all to make sure his wife, Camille Cosby, would not find out about the transgression.

Cosby, 77, did everything possible to make sure wife Camille Cosby wouldn’t know he’d had sex with former Temple University employee Andrea Constand, according to a 2005 deposition published by The New York Times.
The disgraced funnyman hid the relationship with Constand by “writing a check” to fund her college education, the transcript reveals.
“My wife would not know it was because Andrea and I had sex and that Andrea was now very, very upset and that she decided that she would like to go to school,” Cosby said.
Cosby also “acknowledged” a $5,000 payment to Therese Serignese, an alleged victim from a 1976 incident. The payment was made to Serignese through Cosby’s agent at the William Morris Agency.
“Who were you preventing from knowing?” Constand’s lawyer asked.
He answered: “Mrs. Cosby.”
Camille, typically mum regarding the allegations, stated in defense of her husband last December, “He is the man you thought you knew.”
With a significant amount of evidence brought forth by countless women, it may be hard to find validity in Camille’s statement.
