The news broke today that the wrestling legend, Dust Rhodes aka “The American Dream” has died today at the age of 69.
WWE made the announcement about Rhodes, who’s real name is Virgil Riley Runnels, Jr. Rhodes made he wrestling debut in1968 in a tag-team match with his than partner Dick Murdoch. The debut happened on the Texas Outlaws.

Rhodes wrestled as a three-time champion of the NWA and was rightfully inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
His sons also professionally wrestle and have been well known characters in WWE’s organization as GoldDust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels)…
Here is the statement released by WWE today:
“Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated other to WWE Superstars GoldDust and Stardust, a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.”
