(HOUSTON) — Award-winning Houston Chronicle restaurant critic Alison Cook will reveal this year’s “Top 100 Restaurant List” on Wednesday as part of the first-ever Houston Chronicle Culinary Stars event at the Hilton-Americas Hotel in downtown Houston.

Twenty of Houston’s top chefs who have made this Top 100 list in the past will present their signature dishes as part of the event.

Cook has been the Houston Chronicle’s restaurant critic since 2002 and she’s witnessed quite a bit of change from then to the present.

“I think we’ve finally figured out how to make the most of the various culinary threads that we’re heir to here,” she said. “The Mexican, the Lousiana, the Central Texas, new Asian cuisines that have become so important.”

Her advice for navigating the Houston restaurant scene: “We’re rich in very very good food across a variety of cost levels and you know, start at the lesser end and work up.”

The sold-out event will find guests mixing, mingling and sampling outstanding food and wine throughout the evening. The highlight of the night will be the reverse countdown unveiling of Cook’s Top 100 Restaurant list with chefs accepting their awards.

Every guest in attendance will receive the new 100+ page bound book of the list, which includes full reviews and photos from the Top 10 restaurants and recommendations for best dishes from the full list of 100.

Copies of the book will be included in this Thursday’s edition of the Houston Chronicle.
