Ibeyi

French-Cuban twins, Ibeyi pronounced “ee-bey-ee,” featuring 19-year-old sisters, Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz,  have a video that might be unsettling to a person that has any underwater fears.  In the song, “River,” the twin sisters take turns staring flatly and with little expression into the lens.  They are both repeatedly dipped underwater in what looks like a baptism or a semi-forced drowning.

They’re the daughters of the groundbreaking Cuban percussionist, Miguel “Anga” Diaz and although they’re based in France and sing “River” in English mostly, they do go to their Yoruba roots and raise their voices up in the Yoruba language.

It’s a pretty cool song and interesting video…check it out.
