On a live CNN broadcast today (August 21), Don Lemon spoke with rapper and activist Talib Kweli about the unrest and conditions in Ferguson. That’s when things quickly went left.

Kweli said he went to Ferguson, Mo., to “control the narrative” because mainstream media wasn’t doing its part by reporting inaccuracies about the protests. Lemon cut him off and disagreed saying people in the town were “commending him and the network” for their coverage.

But Kweli pointed to an article on CNN’s website that characterized the protests as “calm until the bottles fly,” telling Lemon, “That’s not what happened.”

Tensions were raised on-air when Kweli called out Lemon for being dismissive. He accused the CNN broadcaster of not acknowledging him before going live, more interested in his phone. Lemon denied that.

Mediaite originally captured the the tension between the two. Watch below.

The two seemed to have squashed their quick beef, by shaking hands by the segment’s end. Let’s hope this will bring a more accurate narrative and discussion to the media going forward. No one likes to be called out.
