Third annual Police Week Heroes Awards luncheon (HPD/Twitter)

(HOUSTON) — It is National Police Week, and the Houston Police Department is marking it by honoring some of the best employees on staff.

With Mayor Annise Parker and Police Chief Charles McClelland Jr. in attendance, some of HPD’s finest were honored with Heroes Awards.

In all, 31 HPD employees received an award. Five of them were for lifetime achievement.

“During National Police Week, we always honor those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, but we also think it’s important to honor those who have gone above and beyond,” McClelland said.

This is the third year the Heroes Awards ceremony has been held.
